Questions
The short answers. The full proof report rules are on how attribution works.
The free Leak Check works today. The paid recovery service described below is not open yet. Email hello@renewvane.com to hear when it opens.
What does Renewvane do?
When a subscriber's payment fails in Stripe, we send them a short, plain text email on your behalf with a link to update their card or pay the invoice on a Stripe page. We handle "authentication required" failures with their own message. You get a weekly email showing what came back, and a monthly proof report.
How much does it cost?
The Leak Check is free and needs no card, no sign up and no Stripe access. If it shows the plan would likely pay for itself, you can start a 30 day free trial once our secure connect page is open. Stripe asks for a card, and you are not charged if you cancel before the trial ends. One trial per account. After that it is $49 a month, the same whatever we recover. Cancel anytime in the billing portal; you keep the plan until the end of the month you paid for.
Do I have to give you access to my Stripe account to start?
No. The first step is the free Leak Check on our website. You read a few totals for the last 90 days from your own Stripe Dashboard (failed payments, recovered payments and your average payment) and type them in. The math runs in your browser, and nothing you type is sent to us or stored. If you want to talk, reply to our email or write to hello@renewvane.com with your band only, not your numbers if you prefer. A connected audit that reads your invoices for exact numbers is coming later. It will only ever happen if you choose to connect, through a secure page on our own web address. Never send a Stripe key by email or chat; we will never ask for one that way.
Why not just count payments made through your link?
Because some of those subscribers would have paid anyway, for example after Stripe's next retry or after noticing the problem themselves. The holdout tells us how many. We still use the link as an evidence check, but the proof report never credits us with more than the measured lift.
Can a small holdout be unlucky and make the report look too good?
We designed against that. We compare at least 60 days of invoices, widening to 180 days when the holdout is small, and we subtract a safety margin of 1.645 times the statistical uncertainty of the lift, so we only claim lift we are about 95% sure is real. If there are still fewer than 20 holdout invoices to compare, the report says the lift is not measured yet. Your price stays $49 a month either way.
Can I change the 15% holdout?
Yes, in your settings, to any whole number from 10% to 50%. It can never go below 10%. A larger holdout gives a cleaner measurement but more subscribers miss our emails. The change only applies to invoices that fail after it; an invoice's group never changes once assigned.
Who qualifies for the trial?
Accounts whose last 90 days show, on average, at least $2,500 a month of failed payments and at least 20 failed payments a month (US dollar invoices). The failed amount is the full amount of invoices whose first charge failed, whether Stripe later recovered them or not, because our emails can only add recovery on top of what fails. From about $1,500 up to $2,500 a month (still with 20 or more failed payments) is borderline: you can start the trial, but we tell you plainly first that the plan may or may not pay for itself. Below that, $49 a month likely would not pay for itself yet and Stripe's own tools are likely enough, so we tell you, show no checkout, and offer to remind you to re check for free in 60 days. The free Leak Check gives you this answer from your own Dashboard totals. Before any trial starts, the app confirms it from your account's real numbers.
How soon will the proof report show a measured result?
Honestly, not right away. A measured result needs about 20 holdout invoices that are at least 21 days old. At the default 15% holdout and 20 to 50 failed payments a month, that usually takes a few months, sometimes up to six. Until then the report shows the raw numbers without a lift estimate. Once you connect, the connected audit shows the month we expect your first measured result, and you can raise your holdout share to get there sooner.
Do you take credit for payments Stripe would have recovered anyway?
No. Stripe's retries keep running on every invoice, including the holdout group, so whatever they recover shows up in the holdout's rate, which we subtract. On top of that, an invoice only counts in your proof report if the subscriber clicked our link and, within 7 days, paid through the Stripe page we opened, with a new card added within 2 hours of the click or by completing their bank's 3D Secure confirmation. A payment Stripe's automatic retry collects on the old card never counts.
What is the holdout, and does it cost me anything?
When recovery is on, each newly failed invoice is randomly assigned. By default about 85% get our emails and about 15% get no emails from us at all and go through your normal Stripe settings. You can set the holdout anywhere from 10% to 50%, never below 10%. An invoice's group is fixed when we first see it and never changes. Comparing the two groups is the only honest way to know what our emails add. The cost is real: holdout subscribers deliberately miss our emails, so you may recover less on those invoices. You agree to this when you turn on recovery, and we show the holdout numbers in every monthly proof report.
What is in the monthly proof report?
We only look at invoices that are at least 21 days past their failure, so both groups had the same time to be paid. Over at least the last 60 days (up to 180 days if the holdout is small) we compare the share of failed dollars each group recovered. The difference is the measured lift. We subtract a safety margin of 1.645 times its statistical uncertainty, so we only claim lift we are about 95% sure is real. We multiply that cautious lift by the month's emailed failed dollars, take the smaller of that and the payments that passed the evidence check, and show it next to your $49 plan. If there are still fewer than 20 holdout invoices to compare, the report says the lift is not measured yet. The report is never a bill; your price stays $49 a month. A sample report is on our pricing page.
Can you guarantee results?
No. Results depend on your subscribers, their banks and your product. The Leak Check shows what is at stake, not what will come back.
What Stripe access do you need?
None for the Leak Check. For the connected audit and the recovery service, which are coming later: a restricted API key, entered only on our own secure page (never by email or chat), with read access to Invoices, Customers, Events, PaymentIntents, Charges and PaymentMethods, and write access to the Customer portal so we can create the "update your card" page. Webhook Endpoints write is needed only if you choose webhook mode. Everything else stays at None. You can revoke the key from your Stripe dashboard at any time.
Do you touch my customers' card numbers or money?
No. Subscribers enter card details on Stripe hosted pages and pay you directly through Stripe. We never see full card numbers and never hold your money.
Will the emails look like they come from me?
Yes. They go out under a sender name and address you approve, written in a tone based on a short sample you give us. You review the emails before anything is sent.
Will my subscribers get duplicate emails from Stripe and from you?
They might, if Stripe's failed payment emails are also on. We write our emails to work alongside Stripe's, and our setup guide shows what subscribers will receive. Please do not change your Stripe retry or email settings after turning us on without telling us: the holdout measures lift against your current setup, and a change mid month makes the comparison less clean.
Do you send marketing to my subscribers?
No. Recovery emails are about the payment only. We do not use your subscribers' information for anything else.
What about replies from my subscribers?
We summarize them in your weekly email and show the full text in the app. We do not make refund or cancellation decisions for you.
Do you send texts or make calls?
No. Email only.
Who owns my subscriber data?
You do. You are the data controller and we process the data only to provide the service. A full privacy policy for the paid service will be published before it opens.
What happens if I disconnect?
Recovery emails stop right away. We delete subscriber personal information from your Stripe account within 30 days, keeping only limited billing records the law requires. Disconnecting does not cancel your plan by itself; cancel it in the billing portal too.
How am I billed?
$49 a month through Stripe, charged at the start of each month of service to the card you gave at checkout. You can update the card, see invoices and cancel in the billing portal. If a payment for the plan fails, recovery keeps running for 7 days while you update your card, then we pause the emails. We never delete your data because of a missed payment.
Is there a money back guarantee?
No. Instead there is a free Leak Check, a free trial if you qualify, a proof report every month, and you can cancel anytime.
Who is this for?
Small subscription software companies that bill through Stripe. If your Leak Check shows only a small amount, we tell you plainly that the plan likely would not pay for itself yet, and we do not offer it.
How do I contact you?
Reply to any of our emails or write to hello@renewvane.com. A real person reads every message.
Still deciding? Start with the free audit
Type three or four totals from your own Stripe Dashboard and see whether a $49 a month plan would likely pay for itself. It runs in your browser: no sign up, no Stripe key, and your numbers are never sent to us.
The paid recovery service is not open yet. Nothing on this site signs you up, takes payment or connects to Stripe. Email hello@renewvane.com to hear when the paid service opens.
Never put a Stripe key in an email to us. We will never ask for one.
